| The Algarve is traditionally divided into tow halves; the “Sotavento” (leeward side) in the east extending from Albufeira to Vila Real de Santo António and the “Barlavento” (windward side) in the west extending from Albufeira to Sagres. |
| It should, however, be mentioned that there is one school of thought that takes the view that the “Sotavento” does not begin until Faro. |
